Helpful Tips - An Easier Way to Trim Your Pets Nails
Have you struggled with trimming your companion animal’s nails? Have you ever clipped too close to the quick and heard the piercing yelp of your sweet pet? The fact is, many of us neglect nail trimming, either out of fear of injury or frustration over past skirmishes. Luckily, there’s a new way to approach this necessary “parenting” duty.
Dremel rotary tools are a common staple of many modern tool kits and are available in electric- or battery- (cordless) operated styles. By using the sandpaper wheel attachment, you can fashion a great alternative to blade clippers, which can painfully pinch or bend nails, or cut through the quick of the nail resulting in bleeding.
Be sure to grasp your pet’s paw firmly, pushing slightly on the pad to fully extend the nail. Apply slight pressure with your Dremel tool and gently sand down the nail, “sculpting” a trimmed nail. Always move the sanding wheel in the direction of the spin; if you try to force it against the direction of spin, movement will be very difficult, and it may bounce off the nail. It’s best to proceed at the lowest possible speed setting, until you and you companion animal become accustomed to this new method. You may want to trim the hair around your dog’s feet with scissors, because you don’t want to get hair tangled in the spinning wheel. Best of luck with this new technique!
